Exhibition ‘My World’ | curated by Hans den Hartog Jager

Laren

The Netherlands is home to a wealth of contemporary art, often ‘hidden’ in private collections. The exhibition offers a unique insight into some of the most important private Dutch collections featuring top-quality international contemporary art.

On display are works from all corners of the globe by Yayoi Kusama, Charles Avery, Ai Weiwei, Zanele Muholi, Marlene Dumas and Anselm Kiefer, among others. Curated by art critic and curator Hans den Hartog Jager, the exhibition highlights the world an art collector builds and keeps expanding.

In My World, visitors travel through seven museum rooms, each with its own theme and atmosphere. From a room full of portraits and human figures that hold up a mirror to us, to the final room where heaven and the universe take centre stage. Here we are briefly confronted with the intangible and eternity.

Long tradition
The exhibition is part of a long tradition at Singer Laren of showing work from private collections. By collaborating with collectors, the museum makes art that is not normally accessible to the public visible. In doing so, the museum invites everyone to discover the world of contemporary art and experience how works of art can enlarge and enrich everyone's world.
