The Oude Haven is the endpoint of the Gooische Vaart, which was dug out 240 years ago and runs from 's Graveland to Hilversum. In 1876 the Port was ready for use. The water lies 14 to 16 meters deeper than the surroundings. A natural forest has spontaneously overgrown the slopes. No fewer than forty-eight species of trees and shrubs have been found in the vegetation and the bird life is also extremely varied.
