The Spanderswoud is a forest area with a small heathland in the center and a number of erratic water features on the Hilversum side. Originally it was a production forest of hardwood and softwood. Since 1981 work has been carried out on a transformation to natural forest. The ultimate goal of this transformation is a forest with native tree species that can sustain itself. By outlining trees and leaving felling wood, more species of animals are able to find hiding and breeding opportunities and plants and young trees are given opportunities for growth.
