Nieuwersluis
At Fort Nieuwersluis, the eventful history of this small village comes to life. Due to its strategic location, Nieuwersluis was part of the Old Dutch Waterline and later the New Dutch Waterline. In the 19th century, the New Dutch Waterline protected the cities in Utrecht and Holland. A tower fort was built on Fort Nieuwersluis in the mid-nineteenth century. Later, earthen walls, gun emplacements, a bombproof barracks and three depots were added.
